If you didn’t have an inflatable neon backpack when you were at school, where were you? Tammy Girl was the Y2K brand to be seen in, but it shut up shop (literally) in 2005 much to the dismay of shoppers. However, thanks to the resurgence of ’90s-’00s trends, the affordable fashion brand returned in 2022 on Asos, and we’re declaring the new bubble tote this summer’s must-have accessory.

Amidst the mesh tops and chunky platforms, shoppers can now get their hands on a new inflatable tote bag in either purple or grey. The £24 blow-up bag is already making waves on TikTok with users like @maddylucydann filming her pumping up the accessory, which she revealed was delivered flat with its own pump. While it took a little while to get the bag looking like its Y2K predecessors, the finished result is a nostalgic throwback that is certain to go viral around festival season.

The inflatable backpack became a staple of the early ’00s with the likes of Hilary Duff modelling the iconic look on the Disney Channel’s “Lizzie McGuire”, and it soon became a status symbol of schools up and down the country. Yet, the accessory is returning. Like space bun hairstyles like Billie Piper at the BAFTA TV Awards or double denim couple dressing like the Beckhams, trends of the early Noughties are back, so you might as well get on board.

The Tammy Girl Inflatable Bubble Bag (£24) will protect all your valuables inside, float if you drop it in a pool, and cement you as a Y2K trendsetter. Just be clear of any pins!
